KVFD 9/11 Remembrance Event

September 11 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Please join us as we mark 25 years since the September 11 attacks at the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department 9/11 Memorial.

The remembrance ceremony will take place on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at Station 5.

Featuring remarks from:

  • The Honorable Brian Birdwell — Assistant Secretary of War for Sustainment
  • Retired KVFD Chief James Stanton — KVFD Chief in 2001 who coordinated the department’s response to the Pentagon on September 11
  • Montgomery County Fire Chief Corey Smedley — Served as a Prince George’s County firefighter at the time of the attacks

Additional speakers and distinguished guests will be announced as they are confirmed.

The KVFD 9/11 Memorial includes a 16-foot section of twisted steel I-beam from the World Trade Center’s North Tower, recovered from just below the aircraft impact zone, as well as a piece of fractured limestone façade from the exterior of the Pentagon.

The event is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend as we come together to remember those we lost and honor those who responded on September 11, 2001.

Parking: Parking will be available behind Station 5 at 10620 Connecticut Avenue. Space is limited. Overflow parking will also be available in the parking lot and garage at 10605 Concord Street.
