What Is a Live-In Firefighter & How Do I Qualify
A live-in firefighter is a trained volunteer who lives at the firehouse, serving the community while receiving housing, training, and benefits. At KVFD, being a live-in means more than just free housing; it means becoming a dependable, active member of a close-knit emergency services team.
To join the program, you must:
- Have at least one year of active service with KVFD or another fire department
- Be operationally active in at least two roles (e.g., Firefighter, EMT, Ambulance Driver)
- Be enrolled full-time in school, employed full-time, or a combination of both
- Serve at least four stand-by shifts per week
- Complete weekly station duties
- Submit a request to our Live-In Coordinator for approval
